Our Commitment
Shropshire Music Service (SMS) is committed to ensuring that every pupil can learn, perform, and enjoy music in a safe and supportive environment.
This Code of Conduct outlines how pupils, parents, and staff can work together to maintain high standards of respect, safety, and wellbeing.
For Pupils
When taking part in lessons, ensembles, or events, pupils are expected to:
- Be kind, polite, and respectful to staff, tutors, and other pupils.
- Follow instructions from tutors and supervisors at all times.
- Use instruments and equipment responsibly and report any issues straight away.
- Arrive on time, prepared for lessons or rehearsals, and ready to participate.
- Avoid behaviour that could disrupt learning or make others feel uncomfortable.
- Treat everyone fairly, regardless of age, ability, background, or identity.
- Let a trusted adult or tutor know if they ever feel worried, unsafe, or upset.
For Parents and Carers
Parents and carers play an essential role in maintaining a positive, safe learning environment. We ask that you:
- Support your child’s musical learning and encourage regular practice.
- Ensure your child arrives punctually and collected promptly from lessons or rehearsals.
- Communicate any safeguarding, medical, or wellbeing concerns with SMS or your child’s tutor as soon as possible.
- Model respectful communication with staff, pupils, and other parents.
- Avoid photographing or recording sessions unless permission has been granted in advance.
- Respect confidentiality regarding other pupils’ progress or personal information.
Safeguarding Responsibilities
All SMS tutors and staff are trained in child protection and hold current Enhanced DBS clearance.
Safeguarding concerns are managed by our Designated Safeguarding Lead, who will act promptly in line with national and local authority procedures.
Any safeguarding or welfare concern can be raised directly with SMS by calling 01743 874145 or emailing admin@shropshiremusicservice.org.uk.
Our Shared Goal
Together, we create a musical environment built on trust, respect, and safety – where every young person can explore their potential, perform with confidence, and enjoy the lifelong benefits of making music.
