There’s something truly special about the sound of young musicians discovering their rhythm – and at Myddle CE Primary School and Nursery, Rhino Class has been doing just that!
As part of Shropshire Music Service’s Whole Class Instrumental Teaching, every pupil in Rhino Class has been learning to play the recorder and the Toot – an easy-to-play beginner wind instrument that helps children build the skills and confidence to one day move on to flute or clarinet.
The classroom has been buzzing with excitement as the children mastered their first notes, learned to play simple tunes together, and discovered the joy of making music as a team. Their concentration, laughter, and enthusiasm have shone through every lesson – and the photos they sent us say it all: a room full of smiles, proud faces, and children who can’t wait for the next song.
Their tutor Mrs White from Shropshire Music Service said how impressed they were by the children’s focus and determination. “You can see how much they’re growing in confidence every week,” they said. “They’re listening to one another, keeping in time, and celebrating every little success, exactly what making music is all about.”
Learning together helps pupils develop teamwork, patience, and a sense of achievement that goes far beyond music. And for the staff at Myddle, seeing that transformation has been a real highlight of the term.
Dr Sarah Browne, Head of Shropshire Music Service, said:
“Whole class music-making is such a powerful way to bring joy and confidence into the classroom. Rhino Class should be incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved, they’re proof that when children make music together, amazing things happen.”
To everyone in Rhino Class – we’re so proud of you! Keep practising, keep smiling, and keep sharing the wonderful music you make.
