General Safeguarding Policy
At SMS we are committed to ensuring the welfare and protection of all children and young people we engage with. This section outlines our safeguarding approach.
Policy statement
We believe that every child/young person has the right to feel safe, valued and respected when participating in music tuition, workshops, ensembles and events organised or delivered by SMS. We recognise our duty to safeguard all participants and will work in partnership with schools, parents/carers and other agencies to protect them.
Key elements
- All staff, tutors and volunteers undergo appropriate clearance including DBS checks, safeguarding training, and induction in line with statutory guidance (such as Keeping Children Safe in Education).
- SMS has a designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and responds swiftly to any concerns, records incidents, and works with local authority designated officers (LADO) and partner schools.
- We include online safety, safe recruitment, supervision of sessions, and clear behaviour expectations.
- We ensure pupils understand how to raise concerns, and parents/carers are informed about safeguarding arrangements and how to contact our DSL.
Review and training
Safeguarding policies are reviewed annually or sooner if legislation changes. All relevant staff receive refresher training every year.
